An 11 day introduction to the Atlantic Rainforest and its unique wildlife at the Reserva Ecologica de Guapi Assu (REGUA) exploring the delights of the rainforest staying in a fabulous lodge with parakeets in the lodge gardens. 430 species of birds and 13 species of parrot in this reserve. Experience a conservation project in action.
Day 1 - 18th November 2010 - Leave UK or home country on an overnight flight to Rio de Janeiro, BRAZIL
19th November - Arrive Rio de Janeiro and met at the airport for a transfer by air conditioned mini bus to REGUA a 2 hour drive north-east of Rio.
Check into your air conditioned, en-suite room at the Guapi Assu bird lodge.
After freshening up we will explore the lodge gardens and the wealth of birdlife that frequents this fantastic place. Hummingbirds and even visits by Maroon bellied Parakeets and Orange winged Amazons.
After lunch we will visit the wetland areas a short walk from the lodge with herons, ducks and many other species including caiman crocodiles and Capybara with a possibility of Blue winged Parrotlets.
20th November - Waldenoors place - another part of the reserve where we have seen 4 species of parrots in the past.
21st November - a trip to Serra dos Tucanos and Macae de Cima
Serra dos Tucanos is another lodge further up the Atlantic Rainforest with many species of birds including Parakeets very close enabling a superb chance of photography or just watch in amazement.
Macae de Cima a private estate where multiple species of hummingbirds are close. Some species of Parakeets, Parrotlets and Parrots are always possible here.
22nd November - Waterfall trail - a remarkable walk on the reserve ending at a huge waterfall
23rd November - Outside trip destination to be decided
24th November - Nursery trail around to the wetlands followed by a Barbeque and an afternoon in the lodge gardens
25th November - Trip to Teresopolis and Sumidouro - Teresopolis where we can see Maroon bellied and Plain Parakeets as well as Saffron Tucanets and many other birds
Sumidouro is the place where we can see Blue winged Macaws, White eyed Parakeets, 3 toed Jacamars and Seriemas
26th November - Rio Guapi and Lane as well as alternative wetland area
27th November - Casa Anibel - an area where parrots and parakeets gather to roost
Late afternoon transfer to Rio airport for an overnight flight home
28th November - Arrive home
This trip includes all transfers, accommodation, meals and drinks (excluding alcoholic drinks which are available), drivers and guides as well as the 3 trips away from the reserve.
As well as local guides Steve Brookes will be tour leader making sure you get the most out of your trip.
Cost £ per person on a shared basis. Some single rooms may be available. Please ask.
Deposit only £ 500 per person with the balance due 60 days before departure
In all an excellent introduction to the Atlantic Rainforest along with all the wildlife that exists in this amazing destination. the trip is designed to be able to see about 150 species of birds as well as other wildlife. A wonderful lodge with top class food and facilities.
Not included - International airfares, alcoholic drinks, insurance (which will be necessary), phone calls, laundry and items of a personal nature.
