O
n this trip to the Atlantic Rainforest in Brazil we will be travelling to encounter the roosting sites of the Red Spectacled, Red Tailed, Vinaceous Amazons mostly found no where else as well as all the other usual parrots and birds associated with the Atlantic Rainforest.
It is not often that chances are available to see 3 magnificent Amazon Parrots in large numbers without going on a trip like this at this particular time of year.
The average number of bird species seen on a trip like this is 150-200 as well as the Dolphins, monkeys and other wildlife.


DAY1 - Leave UK or home country on an overnight flight to Sao Paulo, Brazil

DAY2 - Arrive Sao Paulo and take a further flight to Curitiba, Parana, Brazil - Check in to hotel and then transfer to Barreirinha neighbourhood to observe the Vinaceous Amazons (Amazona vinacea). Transfer back to hotel for dinner and overnight.

DAY3 - Visit the roost site of the Vinaceous Amazons again today with other birding opportunities.
Visit Curitiba Zoo to see the Red-tailed and Red-browed Amazon breeding project

DAY4 - After breakfast we have an early transfer to the railway station for the train journey from Curitiba to Morretes. Serra Verde Express train - the most scenic stretch of railway in Brazil, disembarking at Morretes, a small colonial town. Lunch in Morretes.

After lunch we will be transferred to Paranagua where a boat ride will take us to our lodge which we reach in the afternoon
The area of 400ha is part of the Environmental protection area of Guaraquecaba and is located in an estuary behind the Superagui National Park. The reserve contains almost 70% of primary Atlantic Rainforest plus areas of secondary rainforest and mangroves.
In the afternoon we make an excursion to Pinheiro Island, refuge of the endemic and endangered Red tailed Amazon (Amazona brasiliensis). Back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

DAY5 - After breakfast we have many options for guided walks and kayaking through the Atlantic Rainforest, mangroves and creeks. Excursion to Superagui village (part of the Superagui National Park) where we can have chances to observe the Black faced Lion Tamarin Monkeys and a trip to the local community of Vila das Pecas to use local canoes for a journey into the Dolphin Bay (a very important marine estuary) to observe and get close to the Dolphins there some of which could be feeding their youngsters.


DAY6 - More guided walks or kayaking with a further visit to Pinheiro Island to see the Red tailed Amazons again

DAY7 - Early transfer from Sebui Reserve to Parangua by boat. From Parangua we take a private transfer to Urupema stopping enroute at Plaza Caldas da Imperatriz for some bird watching around the hotel and overnight

DAY8 - More birding before breakfast after which we will continue the transfer to Urupema in Santa Catarina state with afternoon devoted to observing the Red spectacled Amazon (Amazona pretei)

DAY9 - Full day to observe the Red spectacled Amazons as well as lots more birds and wildlife in this area with enjoyable walks and views of the Serra Catarinense.

DAY10 - A chance to do some more birding before breakfast after which we transfer to Florianopolis for our flight back to Sao Paulo and ultimate flight home.

Price £       which includes all internal flights in Brazil, accommodation, meals (from dinner on Day 2 to lunch on Day 10) , and local bilingual bird guide for the whole trip.

Anyone wanting to join this trip from any other country thanm the UK please let me know - it is no problem but you will require further information from me as to meeting times etc.

NOT INCLUDED - International flights, insurance, visas, tips, items of a personal nature, souvenirs and drinks although water will be available at all times and coffee/tea is usually available with most meals.
